- 30-day defect & leak replacement — a leaking or damaged valve, a cylinder that will not hold pressure, or the wrong refrigerant or fill weight. Inspect within 72 hours of delivery.
Product details
R-449A is a zeotropic blend of HFCs with an HFO component, R-1234yf, which is what pulls its GWP down against R-404A. It arrived as a retrofit and service gas for R-404A and R-507 plant in commercial refrigeration, and newer kit is built around it from the factory. Medium- and low-temperature duty both sit in its range. Whether a given machine takes it, and on what oil, is a question for the OEM's retrofit guidance rather than an assumption.
The safety group it sits in means lower toxicity and no flame propagation in the standard test — lower toxicity, which is not the same as non-toxic. Vapour is heavier than air and will push oxygen out of a pit, a plant room or a walk-in. Across a flame or a glowing surface it decomposes into irritant, corrosive products. Ventilate the space, keep a leak away from ignition sources and wear eye protection when you break into a liquid line.
Charge liquid, every time. Pull from the liquid port and meter into the low side through a restrictor, or weigh into the high side with the system off. Vapour draw-off fractionates a blend this wide and what comes out next is no longer R-449A. Topping up follows the same rule. Glide is real, so work superheat and subcooling off dew and bubble points rather than a single saturation value, and expect to retune the expansion valve.
