The HFC phase-down steps production and import down by law over time, so the long-run direction for higher-GWP service blends is already settled. Stock on the floor buys a replacement plan time.

The gas itself is a zeotropic blend of R-32, R-125 and R-134a, so it glides rather than holding one saturation temperature, and it has to be charged as liquid every time. Draw vapour off and what stays behind drifts off composition. Work superheat and subcooling from the bubble and dew columns of a blend chart, never a single figure. Polyolester oil is the lubricant; mineral oil will not return through the system. Pressures sit well above R-22 at matched conditions, so check hoses, gauges and service valves are rated for it.

Plan the landing area before it arrives: 1000 lb of refrigerant wants a dedicated cylinder store or cage, not a corner of the workshop, and a consignment this heavy is a mechanical-handling job rather than a two-man lift. Keep cylinders upright and secured, out of the sun, away from heat, and never warm one with a flame. The blend is non-flammable and low in toxicity but heavier than air, so ventilate pits, basements and closed plant rooms. Recover into a recovery cylinder; venting is illegal. Track cylinder numbers and chase empties back.
