Changeover work is the reason to buy this much at once. A rack conversion, a run of walk-ins, a block of display cases coming off R-22 — that is a programme, not a call-out. Size it from nameplate charges, then add for what recovery, evacuation and commissioning actually swallow, because the theoretical figure never survives the first circuit. Buying the whole job's charge together keeps it consistent across the plant and stops a half-converted rack sitting dead while you chase more gas.

The gas itself is an HFC blend — R-32, R-125 and R-134a put up as one service charge — so it behaves as a mixture everywhere, gauges included. Charge liquid against a scale, through a metering device or throttled into the suction with the compressor running; draw vapour and what stays behind drifts off spec. Work superheat and subcooling from the bubble and dew columns of a blend chart, never a single saturation line. Retrofits come off mineral oil and onto POE. Pressures sit above R-22, so confirm hoses, gauges and swapped parts are rated.

Before the gas lands, clear somewhere flat and shaded to stand the cylinders upright and secured, and work out who carries a 25 lb cylinder to the roof. On supply, read your own market: in the US, R-22 production and import have ended and HFC supply steps down under a federal phase-down, and the installed base this blend serves is shrinking rather than growing. Availability comes in runs — easy for a stretch, then hard. The worst morning to go looking is the one a system is down.
